A note from Thu

Last weekend, while Anahita was preparing the land for tree planting, I got to pick violets to steep and make a beautiful and delicious syrup with. We spotted trilliums blooming, ramps, rhubarb and garlic coming back.

Anahita took me to the Fur and Feather show, and I fell in love with all the furbabies and pet them all :) Including these chicks. Somehow we left without buying anything because there are 22 chicks coming next month and we'll be ready to cuddle them.

We're very excited about planning our upcoming online and on land offerings and hope to see you soon!

A note from Anahita

It has been so chilly in Hillsdale and still the farm is buzzing with life. The bees are devouring dandelion pollen which have just emerged and Thu and I have been enjoying young dandelion greens in salads. A gentle reminder that our pollinator friends are very hungry right now, so if you can leave your dandelions and not mow them until it warms up and more flowers emerge, you are doing a huge act of service to all those pollinators who help transform blossoms to fruits and vegetables.

Besides planting seeds in the garden, we are welcoming a crew of four tree planters to plant 1000 native tree saplings. Once they mature they will help slow the wild winds, encourage more wildlife which naturally help control pests and improve our soil by sequestering carbon. Next week we will also be preparing cozy homes to welcome egg laying hens and baby chicks on June 16 🐥

For those who love mushrooms, don't miss next Saturday, May 16th, when we will host a hands-on Culinary Mushroom workshop. We will get out the tools and mushroom spores to inoculate your own mushroom log to take home. You'll learn about the fascinating world of fungi and be able to enjoy the fruits of your labour for years to come, all supplies are provided and a delicious mushroom inspired farm lunch created by Chef Ty is included too.
